Wideband Radio Modem

This term is normally used  against Narrow Band Radio modem  and used for  Standard Data Radio equipments.

Standard interfaces like Serial & Ethernet  expect mere data transfer without manipulating the communication protocol and remaining transparent within network. It is primary requirement from Radio Modem Category.Similar concept when used in conjunction with High Speed systems like Broadband, forms the wide band Radio Modems.Unlike Narrowband more commonly the wide band systems lie in License Free Radio Frequency Spectrums like 865MHz or 2.4GHz or 5.xGHz.Worldwide ISM frequency band is utilized for wide band communication.

Wideband systems provide high speed communication,but at cost of communication distance.Higher the speed sammler the distances can be achieved. Higher frequency also requires clear Line of Sight. So even if a user is able to achieve higher the data rate at wide band radio systems , larger distances can be achieved only when clear line of sight is available or can be obtained by increasing height of antennas.

Various technologies like FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Sectrum) and DSSS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) are commonly known in wideband radio modems.
